The Espanola Regional Hospital and Health Centre provides a variety of in-patient and out-patients programs for acute, transitional and rehabilitation care. This project consisted of a three-phase construction and renovation of a new 13,000 SF Emergency Department, performed under a lump sum contract and completed in 14 months.
The existing emergency services remained operational during the entire construction period. Our Project Team exercised an extremely thorough infection control plan to ensure the remaining patients were not impacted during the demolition and building process. Specific care was taken to eliminate and minimize dust and airborne contaminates, all duct work was sealed, cleaned and inspected both prior to and after construction, floor-to-ceiling hoarding was erected to contain fugitive dust, and before completion of the project, HVAC and gas purity tests were conducted by third-party professionals to ensure the new system was free of contaminants.
As many components were unique, the procurement phase began immediately. Logistics were planned in detail so the construction process was executed in a timely fashion. When just-in-time deliveries were not an option, a controlled staging area was established to provide a contaminant free space for storage of specialty building materials.
