Carefirst is a non-profit charitable organization that has been supporting seniors in the GTA and York Region for over 45 years. The new Carefirst Campus of Care Building will involve the constriction of a 6-storey high building, one level of below grade and two levels of above grade parking. The building will comply with Ministry Long Term Care guidelines for LTC designs. Currently under development, the facility will offer 124-beds and feature a ground-level medical centre, community cafe, and multi-purpose wellness hall.
One of the team’s biggest accomplishments to date has been the ability to maintain project momentum while managing multiple unforeseen conditions simultaneously. Through proactive planning, strong communication with consultants and authorities, and close coordination with trade partners, the team has successfully advanced critical site activities while minimizing schedule impacts wherever possible. This collaboration and “white glove service” has made the client feel at ease and support our decision making to successfully deliver their new LTC facility.
Environmental sustainability and long‑term operational performance are integral to the Carefirst Campus of Care, aligning with Carefirst’s mission to create healthy, resilient, and inclusive communities. The facility is designed to support energy efficiency, durability, and resident well‑being while meeting the rigorous operational demands of a modern long‑term care environment. The building incorporates a high‑performance envelope, efficient mechanical and electrical systems, and centralized building controls to reduce energy consumption and maintain consistent indoor environmental quality for vulnerable residents. Heating, cooling, and ventilation systems are designed to exceed baseline code requirements, supporting improved air quality, thermal comfort, and infection prevention—key priorities in contemporary long‑term care design.
Durable, low‑maintenance materials are prioritized throughout the facility to extend building lifespan and reduce lifecycle environmental impacts. By integrating long‑term care, medical services, and community supports within a single campus, the project also reduces transportation demand and improves service efficiency, contributing to lower overall emissions and more sustainable health‑care delivery. Together, these strategies support Carefirst’s commitment to environmentally responsible development and the delivery of high‑quality, future‑ready care for seniors and the broader community.
