This project involves the construction of a new water treatment plant, distribution system, and raw water intake system at Goulais Mission Reserve, Ontario for Batchewana First Nation. Goulais Mission Reserve is situated on Goulais Bay, Lake Superior, approximately 45 km northwest of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
The residents of Goulais Mission Reserve were serviced by private wells and septic systems. Due to concerns regarding the quality of the well water and the capacity of the wells to meet residential demands, community members received their drinking water delivered by truck (bottle water). To address these concerns and to meet the current and future capacity needs of the community, a new water treatment plant is being constructed on Goulais Mission Road west of the public dock facility on Goulais Bay. Raw water will be pumped from Goulais Bay into the new treatment plant and then distributed to the community through a new distribution system consisting of a new watermain along Goulais Mission Road.
In addition to the above, this project also involves distribution either into or to the curb of residential homes, decommissioning of the existing wells, and start-up, testing, and commissioning of the new treatment facilities.
