Whitby Soccer Dome

Project Details

Client: Town of Whitby
Location: Whitby, Ontario
Building Type: Sports Facility
Contract: Construction Management

This project involved the re-development of an existing outdoor soccer pitch to convert it to an indoor facility by enclosing it with an air-supported structure. This 100,000 square foot facility is one of the largest air-supported structures of its kind in Ontario. The new dome features an innovative skylight system allowing for natural light inside the space as well as an LED lighting system which significantly reduced the electrical consumption for the facility.

The existing field was re-graded and foundations were installed to support the new dome structure. The installation of the new dome structure included all associated mechanical equipment to support the dome structure and to provide HVAC to the facility, the LED lighting system and an artificial turf system for the indoor pitches. The project also included additional paved parking areas that were connected and integrated into the existing complex.
