Matheson is conscious of the important role we play in protecting the environment on a daily basis through sustainable construction. We are corporately committed to being deliberately aware our impact to the environment, and how we can be proactive in leaving our mark in a positive way.
Green Experience
Matheson Constructors and our seasoned team possess significant experience working on projects with sustainability and green goals and initiatives. Several members members of our team are Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professionals and have constructed and commissioned numerous Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Certified buildings.
Low Impact Building Materials
A large part of construction energy consumption comes from the manufacturing of materials used in the building process. To offset and reduce this usage, we are looking to low-impact materials including recycled and repurposed resources. By using locally sourced lumber, the local economy strengthens and helps decrease transportation costs. Employing materials that come from naturally occurring elements, that contain recycled content and waste, or that have been sourced from other building sites, all contribute to help reduce waste.
Reducing Construction Site Waste
- Reduce waste through better storage, more efficient material use, and accurate ordering processes.
- Reuse materials on site wherever possible, in line with best practice and in partnership with clients and supply chains.
- Recycle materials using the array of current methods available through thorough use of clearly marked receptacles on all sites, including those of our offices, and when working remotely.
- Keep all sites clean and tidy, with secure, segregated storage used correctly at all times.
- Collaborate within partnerships and supply chains and seek to embed ‘sustainable thinking’ across activities throughout.
- Maintain continual improvement through measurement against policy and performance, evaluation, review, training and procedural change where required.
- Take special care when working with hazardous wastes, complying will all legislation to ensure they are safely stored and disposed of.
- Communicate this policy to our employees and stakeholders.
